M-ASK: Theatre techniques for stress, anxiety and depression

Stressed, anxious or depressed? M-ASK is a new 12-week programme that uses theatre techniques to help those suffering from stress, anxiety, depression and other conditions affecting mental wellbeing. You don’t need any experience to take part, everyone is welcome, from absolute beginners to the more experienced.

To take part in this free programme - which is funded by Dacorum Borough Council and Hertfordshire Public Health - you must be aged 11 or over and live within Dacorum borough.

When and where

  • The 12-week programme runs every Thursday between 15 September and 8 December 2016 (term time only)
  • Time: 5.30pm – 7.30pm
  • Location: The Old Town Hall, High Street, Hemel Hempstead, HP1 3AE

Each session will explore theatre techniques using masks and you will also have the opportunity to complete a Bronze Level Arts Award qualification.

The NCT Nearly New Sales for Hertford, Ware and District hold three Nearly New Sales a year, two main sales (toys, books, clothes and equipment) in Spring and Autumn and a Toy Sale at the end of November.

Their next sale is on 30th April 11:00 – 13:00 (10.30am for NCT Members) at Presdales School, Hoe Lane.  For equipment, clothing, books, DVDs and toys from maternity up to age 8.

Sales are open to everyone, you don’t need to be an NCT Member.

Wild Wednesday: Tracks and trails

See what you can track down at Stowe this February on adventure with our Team Leader. You'll get a guide to animal tracks, discover what animal makes which footprint and learn how to lay your own secret trails.

Make your own animal print to take home and don't forget tracking wild animals and making a trail with sticks are two of your 50 Things - bring along your 50 Things scrapbook. Don't worry if you don't already have one, we'll have one waiting for you!

Each child attending will need to book a ticket. There is no need for adults to book a ticket.

This activity is for children between 5 and 12 and their families

Assistance dogs are welcome.

Meeting point

We'll be meeting at the Eastern Lake Pavilion, please allow enough time to gain admission through New Inn and make your way to the gardens (it's around a 0.3 mile walk from The New Inn at Stowe).

What to bring and wear

Wrap up warm this winter! It can get a bit nippy in the gardens so bring warm clothes and comfy shoes you don't mind getting muddy. This is an outdoor event so come prepared!

Accessibility

The gardens are partly accessible with steep slopes and uneven terrain. Mobility buggies are available to hire. Please call us to discuss your requirements on 01280 817156.

Other

Though this activity is for children between 5 and 12, we do welcome children of all ages at this event.

Real Tree Weekend: World's End Wyevale Garden Centre

'There's nothing quite like the distinctive scent of a real Christmas tree.  We have a range of pot-grown or cut, hand-pruned, specially selected trees of all sizes, including Nordman Firs and Swedish Style Nordman trees. 

This year, you'll find a forestful of supersized 4m trees in selected centres.  See wyevalegardencentres.co.uk for more details.

World's End Wyevale Garden Centre are hosting two Real Tree Weekends on:

5th - 6th December and

Get Set Go Dacorum: Let's Dance for 55 years and over

Get Set Go Dacorum: Let’s Dance – a happy fusion of getting active, getting involved and getting healthy through the power of dance and movement. We are pleased to extend our programme right through the year. If you are 55 years and over, looking to mix dance and fitness then this may be the activity for you. To avoid disappointment, book early as places are limited. The classes are run by professional, experienced dancer Louise White.

There are two dance classes held in the theatre at The Old Town Hall on a Monday – in the morning between 11am and 12.30pm and in the afternoon between 1pm and 2.30pm.

The classes focus on mobility, fitness and creative dance with light stretches, moving towards simple routines.

You will need to wear something loose that you feel comfortable dancing in, you can have bare feet or wear some soft shoes that you can move safely in.
